It’s summer again. It is late July and close to one hundred degrees and the humidity is so high it adds an invisible weight to the still air. We are out for a walk and the grey clouds that slowly gathering above suddenly let loose a torrent of rain. There is no threat of lightening, it’s just a pure warm rain. We laugh and hold hands and run for a small shelter a short way in the distance. Just before we’re about to take refuge you pull me back and we embrace and kiss. We kick off our shoes and feel the warm mud between our toes like we did as kids. We never do take advantage of the shelter instead electing to enjoy God’s beautiful shower until it slowly gives way to a clearing sky, which in a moment, is adorned by a double rainbow. We hold hands as we walk back to the path we were on, both knowing it is a slice of life we will never forget.
