Tonight I say we go on a mission of peace. What if, we, as spirits in the realm of dreams, could intercede between those who’ve no love lost? The magic I envision isn’t such that it can change the course on grand scale, such as ending the turmoil of two warring nations, or altering large institutions who hate and mistrust, but rather I foresee touching two souls here and two there. Perhaps two by two could slowly become four by four, or eight by eight. So off we are, where we find two men, both raised in the shadow of two religious beliefs, who are each certain the other is wrong. These men aren’t aware of our presence, but as we pass between them and suggest an old idea with a whisper, they suddenly see each other anew. They no longer consider the difference in each other’s sacred teachings, but instead see commonality of place, of family, of food—of all that there is in common were it not for their divergent view of each other’s doctrines. With the latter no longer there to hinder their vision, they smile and share greeting like long lost brothers. They care not who sees them through disapproving eyes as they are now on a plane where the warmth of mutual concern and respect fill their hearts. Curious, another man joins them for coffee at the table they now occupy and by some means not apparent to us, he also sheds his eyes of judgement and begins to connect as he never imagined possible. You and I smile and join hands for our journey home, not knowing if the kinship started will last the hour, but we nod in hopeful optimism as we fly away. Our simple whisper: to love your neighbor as yourself—a piece of magic this beautiful old world could use in abundance.
